Animal welfare guidelines and nutrient requirements

Code of Good Animal Husbandry Practices for Dairy Cattle and Water Buffalo

The Philippine National Standard on Code of Good Animal Husbandry Practices for Dairy Cattle and Water Buffalo was developed to ensure the welfare of these animals and to promote responsible farming practices. The code covers all aspects of animal management, including housing, feeding, watering, and veterinary care.

GAPs 5-Step Animal Welfare Pilot Standards for Dairy Cows

The GAPs 5-Step Animal Welfare Pilot Standards for Dairy Cows are a set of voluntary guidelines developed by the National Milk Producers Federation and the United States Department of Agriculture. The standards cover five key areas of animal welfare: nutrition, housing, health, handling, and transportation.

Animal Health Monitoring

Animals routinely screened may include cows at dry off, fresh cows and heifers, and newly purchased cows. The International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) guidelines for genetic evaluation in dairy cattle include recommendations for health monitoring.

Nutrient Requirements

The publication of the first booklet on animal nutrient requirements in 1945 marked a significant milestone in the field of animal nutrition. Since then, there have been numerous updates and revisions to these requirements, reflecting the advances in our understanding of animal physiology and nutrition.
