Aurora Borealis Sighted in Seattle After Solar Storm
When and Where to See the Northern Lights
Seattle-area stargazers were treated to a spectacular display of the aurora borealis on Friday night, as a strong solar storm hit Earth. The geomagnetic storm created conditions that allowed the Northern Lights to be visible as far south as Washington state.
The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, is a natural light display in the sky, primarily visible at high latitude regions. It is caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with the Earth's magnetic field.
