Benjamin Netanyahu

Early Life and Career

Benjamin Netanyahu was born on October 21, 1949, in Tel Aviv, Israel. His father, Benzion Netanyahu, was a historian and a Zionist activist who had emigrated to Israel from Poland in 1920. His mother, Zila Netanyahu, was also a Zionist activist and a founder of the Women's International Zionist Organization. Netanyahu grew up in Jerusalem and studied history and political science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. After serving as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces, he pursued a career in politics, joining the Likud party in 1982.

Prime Ministership

Netanyahu first served as prime minister of Israel from 1996 to 1999. During his first term, he oversaw a period of economic prosperity and stability, signing the Oslo II Accords with the Palestinian Authority. However, his tenure was also marked by ongoing conflict with the Palestinians and the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000. Netanyahu returned to office as prime minister in 2009 and served until 2021.
