Real Madrid crowned Champions League winners for record-extending 15th time

Los Blancos defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in an enthralling final at Wembley

Real Madrid extended their record as the most successful club in the history of the UEFA Champions League, securing their 15th title with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the 2024 final at Wembley Stadium.

Borussia Dortmund, making their first appearance in the final since 1997, started brightly and put up a valiant fight, but they were unable to find a way past Real Madrid's resolute defense, which was marshaled by the experienced Sergio Ramos. It was the German club who dominated the first half, peppering the Real Madrid goal with shots, but they lacked the cutting edge to break the deadlock.

Real Madrid, however, came out with renewed purpose in the second half. They began to control possession and create chances of their own. The breakthrough came in the 67th minute when Vinicius Jr. raced onto a pass from Luka Modric and slotted the ball home past Roman Burki in the Borussia Dortmund goal. The goal seemed to deflate Borussia Dortmund, who had given so much in the first half.

Real Madrid took full advantage of their opponents' fatigue and sealed the victory in the 89th minute. Karim Benzema, who had been relatively quiet for much of the match, latched onto a cross from Dani Carvajal and headed home from close range. The goal sent the Real Madrid fans into raptures and effectively ended the match as a contest.

The victory marks Real Madrid's fifth Champions League triumph in the past nine years. They remain the undisputed kings of Europe, and their victory is a testament to the club's unwavering commitment to excellence. Borussia Dortmund, despite their valiant effort, must content themselves with the knowledge that they pushed one of the greatest teams in history to the limit.
